I'm in the process of tearing down a TO-30 and have removed the quadrant control from the side of the tractor housing. My question is...I heard from a Tractor (Massey Dealer) that this is a pain in the rear end to reinstall. Does anybody have any tricks of the trade for reinstalling? Thanks for your help.

here is nothing hard about refitting the Hydraulic Quadrant back on the tractor, I think your MF dealer was hoping that you would let him do it..The site that James UK sent is very good and the only difference between the TE20 and the TO20 quadrant adjusment is when you come to do the Control lever adjustment on a TE20 its 2 1/4" down the quadrant and on a TO20 its 2 1/2" if you set it to that is will be fine. Just one other point I always go on about, make sure that with an implement attached and raised that the Control Spring at the back of the seat has an end float of no more than .020" (you should just be able to tun it) check this adjustment BEFORE you do the final Control lever adjustment because it does make a big difference.

Be advised this link JamesUK has provided pertains to TEA tractors and does not apply to TO series tractors entirely. There is no substitue for buying the original MF owners and shop manuals.

A good point Ray!

As is often the case, I get all carried away . . . however, I think the nuts and bolts of the back end of a TO are the same as the TE series - it was only really the engine that changed wasn't it? Our TE 20-85 is your TO30, and your TO35 is our FE35 or am I off-track?

Either way, getting the quadrant back in the hole it came from is not a big deal - the setting up isn't too bad either - you just need to remember that it is far more sensitive than you would give it credit for. Spending a little time on it is worthwhile.

Never having done this set up before, it took me 45 minutes. The fore/aft setting on the quadrant needs patience, and lots of it. But it isn't hard.

Cetainly I agree that the original manuals will be a good investment, but it depends how much the owner will use them.

I have the I@T Manual for the To/TE 20 and 30 series, and it seems to do a very adequate job, $29.00 at TSC...unfortunately I have a TEA-20, but the manual works for everything but the engine...and John helps out there...

Regards...
