Could you advise what the differences are, if any,(other than the size of the pistons) between the TE 20 and the TEA 2085? I have a TEA 2085 ser# 439536 (1953 I think) but cannot find a shop manual specifically for this tractor. I can find them for a TE 20. I do have the original owners manual but it is very general in nature.

Sorry I didnt give you a more fuller answer earlier. A TE20 and a TEA20 are more or less the same apart from the engines plus yours is a 12v and all TE20's were 6v.

Thanks John (UK),Jim and others. Most manuals I could find only mentioned TE20 etc. and not TEA2085.

TE20"s are basicaly all the same apart from the engines and parts peculiar to fit a particular engine to it. A TEA is a TE20 but fitted with a Standard Motors gas engine. A TEA20/80 is TE20 fitted with a Standard Motors 80mm bore gas engine, a TEA20/85 is the same again only fitted with an 85mm gas engine. So when you look for a manual you need to know if it has the Standard Motors engine in it as well as the Continental engine which I would think most manuals would have anyway. The rest of the tractor is the same.But never be stuck for information on the Standard engine there is always someone on here who will give you their advice about a particular problem.

As far as I know, TEA2085 is really just a nickname to distinguish it from the earlier 80 mm (TEA2080). Both were really just model # TEA20.

They have different engines!
First was the TE20, made in England (thus the E), using a Continental engine brought in from the USA. Then, they switched over and started sourcing engines from The Standard Motor Company; the gasoline versions of these are the TEA20.
In the UK, they refer to the whole series as TE20. This includes the TE20, TEA20, TEF20, TED20, and so on. So if you find a manual from the UK that covers the TE20 series, your TEA will be covered. I have one of these that I ordered in and it has every detail you could ever want to service your machine. On the link below check item #8; that"s the one I got.
(Meanwhile across the pond in the USA they started production of the TO20, which had the same Continental engine as the TE20, so these are pretty similar, at least engine-wise. So if you find a USA produced book that covers the TO20 and TE20, it won"t help you much as it won"t cover the Standard engine.)
