I would like to know how to stabilize my drawbar from going up and down when using a trailer or is there another way to hitch a trailer ?

Keith, I have a TO-30 and ran into the same problems trying to use a 3point draw bar. As mentioned above there is some danger especially if you want to use your PTO while towing. Mr Carhill steared me to a swinging draw bar (cost about $100 new) and this has worked out very well.

Do you have a drawbar that fits between the lift arms? To use the original Ferguson System you need this drawbar and the two bars that fasten on with the drawbar to the top link pin. If using the PTO make sure the lift is fasten down if it doesn't stay down. Ferguson made a V hitch that bolted on the drawbar and lift arms and the drawbar wouldn't twist then and Ball Hitches worked great on them. Look in your parts book for pictures.

On the TO30's and later tractors there are stud holes on the bottom of the differential where you can purchase and mount a real nice swinging drawbar to.

Go to the Ford N board on this site look at the previous posts for the Zane Thang. Zane Sherman has apparently devised a way to add position control to the old tractors including teh Fergusons alternately you can attach to the housing or use the stay brackets and hold drawbar in position Zane's email is [email protected]

Hi Keith.

I agree with Mike, a good fixed hitch under
the differential is the good and "safest"
way to draw trailers and other machinery other than 3 point implements. It is your insurance that the tractor will not flip over, and downhill
protection the hydraulic drawbar may go up, arms
or hydraulic mechanism may brake and the trailer tongue may hit you.

Some TE, TEA, TO came with V brackets that attach to the third point (pole point) on the tractor
and each side of the hydraulic drawbar, in order
to keep the drawbar at stable posisition. But...
but..with this device... if you forget to put the hyd level control down or to disengage PTO when you will start the engine you will have a "surprise".

Conclusion..when i was youg I saw accidents and injuries caused by just distractions. It worth the money invested to install or ask to a shop specialized in hitch if you dont have tools to do it or, if you don't know how.

Build a solid hitch and attach it to the bottom of the rear axle. My Ferguson 35 came with one on it,maybe you can find a used one. The other alternative is fixing the seals on your hydraulic pump in your rearend, to stop the bypass. Good luck.
