Just bought a farm and got a 1956? F-40 with the purchase. I have spent some money to get the tractor running and working. The PTO lifts sometimes and other times does not. I am interested in your comments on the reliabilty, work load, value and any other information anyone has on the F-40. I am trying to decide if I want to keep this one working or get a new tractor. Thank you all for your comments.

Keep the F-40! The troubles with the hydraulic system can be fixed. Today, the F-40 is one of the most sought-after Ferguson tractors. It was an adaptation of the Ferguson TO-35, one of the finest tractors of its type ever built. I have two of them and am just finishing the complete restoration of one of them.

If you will e-mail me at nelsonwhr(at)msn(dot)com, I will send you some helpful information. You will have to send me your mailing address as what I have doesn"t lend itself to transfer by e-mail.
