MF-35 Battery Polarity

I have just Bought a MF 35 deluxe. I was checking some things yesterday and i noticed that the new battery was connected with the Positive to ground. Is this the proper connection for these tractors?

From the factory with the Delco Remy electrics my info says it was NEGATIVE to ground. If equipted with Lucas electrics, I don't know.
Does the ampmeter show charge with the engine off but key or headlights on?

I would say to look at the coil and see which wire is running to the points, the negative side of the coil or the positive side. If the negative side is going to the points then the battery needs to be negatively grounded...or vice versa, however, I think it will work either way...but one way will work better. Clear as mud? It depends on the age of the beast - a lot of cars and tractors designed over here were +ve ground until the mid-late 60s, when everyone went over to -ve ground.

Metallurgically speaking I feel that +ve ground is better, as electrolytic action is less severe (but don't ask me to prove it 'cos its all too long ago) with a +ve ground system.

Even if your tractor has been converted to +ve ground from -ve (or vice versa) my own feeling is don't worry too much.

If you post the serial number of your tractor here, someone with more knowledge than me will be able to provide a definitive answer to whether or not your polarity is corret for the year/number.
