TO20 hydraulic pump

I have a TO20 tractor that won't lift with the 3pt hitch. I removed the access covers and can see oil spraying out by the left hand side cover. It looks like the gasket is bad on the side of the pump(?). How much work is it to remove the pump and replace the gasket. I assume I have to remove the top cover to remove the pump and replace the gasket. Any advice up front would be appreciated. Thanks - TW

just finished repairing a to30 everthing is very simple if you have a manual. get a gasket kit and o rings,got all my parts here on this net. my sump was dirty as well as the rear end i used a shop vac to clean up.lube was #80/90 rear end type

Yes it sounds like a gasket,(or an "O" ring) but try to make sure just where the leak is from before you remove the pump. I have an instruction sheet for doing all this if you want it.Mail me at fergusontractors at hotmail dot com

Thanks for all the advice. Replaced the gaskets on the pump and replaced the oil. Everything has been working well. Much easier to repair than I though it would be. thanks again --TW

The TO-20 pump can be dropped out the bottom of the tractor. Drain the fluid into a clean container, if the fluid is clean and clear of water it can ber re used.

Before you drop the pump, take some time and determine where the leak(s) are or you may not be able to find them at 0 psi. Also, one word of caution before droping the pump is to disconnect the control valve "T" handle or you will end up breaking or bending it badly. Would be good to get an overhaul manual before doing the job and review the archives of this site as lots of help has been posted before.

Phil is correct, you should remove both side inspection covers and with the tractor idleing, use a flashlight and telescoping mirror to determine exactly where the leak is originating. If the leak is above the liquid line you see the spray as you posted, and thus be able to find the origin. If the leak is below the liquid line you should see turbulence. KEEP YOUR HANDS OUT OF MOVING PARTS! There is a series of things that must be performed before attempting pump removal, visit a MF dealer and buy an owners manual and shop manual.
