Is this the port for a temp guage?

I have a TE-20. I examined the upper radiator hose bracket on the engine, and on the right hand side (ALF) there is a bolt and washer in the cast housing. The bolt is not holding anything together; it is just threaded into a boss. Is this the position where a temp gauge can be fitted? I was under the impression a temp gauge fitted into the left hand side of the housing.

The fitting is just on the engine side of the thermostat.

Thanks
Jeff

That is the place to fit a temp gauge on a TE or TO20. I think that you must be getting mixed up with a TEA engine, that has the hole on the left side of the thermostat housing (not all). You need to be careful about the length of the bulb on the capilliary tube on this engine, there isn't a lot of space in there.

Thanks all,

I have been wanting to put in a temp gauge. However, I haven't found the time to mess with it yet. I say the boss when I was getting my lights to work over the weekend. Now I just have to figure out where to put the gauge itself as there is not much room left on the dash.

Greetings,
I just checked my TE20 and that is where my temp sender is located. I use a mechanical temp gauge where the bi-metal wire looks more like a throttle cable than a temp sending cable. It seems to be fairly accurate as I can see the temp drop when the thermostat opens up.

that is the location for the temp gauge ,i have a te20 and installed a temp unit in it so i know for sure ,by the way the unit i got had a few diffrent adapter bushings and i had to pick what worked ,i really wanted the old type with the cappillary tube like i have on a to30 ,this new type came with a lot of slack which i had to loose behind the gas tank ,i also had to ream a lot of rust out of the hole to get the tube to seat and i used a small amount of teflon paste to smooth the threads ,but it works fine
good luck
Danny

I think it is a fitting for the temperature sensing unit, the capillary tube type. Can't think of any other reason it might be there.

Sitting in the seat of a Standard engined TE tractor, the capillary tube mounts into the aluminium stat housing from the LH side. There is nothing else that should mount to that casting.

Removing the bolts and washer may take patience, electrolytic action between the Al and the Fe bolt makes for good adhesion!!
