I know the manuals says mineral, but who has had experience with different hydraulic oils in a TO30, and what is going to provide me the best, trouble free operation? When I bought it it was full of something (not mineral)and it seemed to work ok... I drained it and now I'm wondering what will be best to fill it with...

Darin,
Wordololgy has changed since the manual was written. When they say mineral oil, they meant 90 weight gear oll in summer, 80 weight in winter. I put 80w90 weight and run it year round...no problems whatsoever. Remember on these tractors that oil is for the transmission, rear end and the hydraulics.

Darin, how many quarts of 80W90 does it take for your TO 30, and are you talking about useing it in everything.

okay, That's what I figure I'll do, too, but a fellow just today told me that some of those tractors have leather seals, and that some petroleum products will cause them to break down.. Have you ever heard of that?

Darin,
I don't think the petoleum will have any effect except to make them last. Peroleum came in these tractors from the factory. Seals do wear out, but it's wear, not the oil.
If your tractor has the original seals in the steering box, those are leather. 90 weight was what came in there originally. I'd be surpised if it had any bad effect.
