I have a te20 made in 1949 . I have a problem with my electrical components corroding .distributor cap , plugs wires. Its got me stumped .The 6 volt system is hooked up negative ground. Could it be that the 6 volt system is positive ground and thats whats doing it.Any help would be much appreciated.

the te tractor was made with lucas electrics throughout, generator, regulator ,distributor and starter all 6volt and like Jerry says it was Pos ground,if all your electric components are correctly wired the only thing that would cause corosion would be water somehow getting onto the wiring while current is flowing ,i have a 1949 te myself but never had corosion problems
good luck

The origninal Ferguson six volt systems were positive ground. I don't think the grounding has anything to do with the points and connections corroding. I belive that's more from non use and high humidity. The wrong polarity in the system can reduce the spark intensity, however.

I live in a very dry area and I use the tractor at least every other day.Being as it is hooked up negative ground right now will it hurt anything if I hook it up positive ground

You'll also have to repolarize your generator. It's been so long since I've done that that I don't remember how it was done. I know you have to put a screwdriver across two of the terminals of the voltage regulator and cause a momentary short. Perhaps one of the other forum members can help with this.

chuck no it wont hurt anything ,your ampmeter will probably show charge when it is actually discharging so you have to reverse the two connections back of the ammeter and then you will be set
good luck

Ya,that would be right. If you have positive ground then the positive wire from the coil goes to the distributer.

So I just turn the coil around and hook the positive side to the distribitor. And swap the battery leads .I wonder if this will effect the charging system. And wether this will help with my original problem

The I&T FE-2 manual has a wirirng diagram. You should have a manual and follow it thru wire by wire and set your tractor straight.
