TO-30 Upper Rear Link Connection

My upper rear link connection is badly worn and needs replacement.(removing the 2&3/4x1" steel sleeve is the dilemma which holds the link on the axel) tried little heat,penn oil,hydralic por-ta-power to free up sleeve. Previous owner hack sawed original connection in half for weldinge longated top pin holes. Found tractor salvage yard for new connection(surprised it to be one piece) yard man with long pin & sledge-hammer beat out sleeve. Axel without wheels so he could get a good strike on sleeve for removal. Would appreciate some input. I don't want to snap the ears off axel using hydalics. Last resort would to saw in half new connection and leave axel sleeve undisturbed .Sorry question so long and hope clear.My wife states nothing is a piece of cake and only takes a few minutes Thanks Ralph-Mich

There was a special puller for doing that job, it actually pulled against one of those "ears" you mention. I do have a picture of it in the Service manual. What some did was to cut through it with a hacksaw across the tractor this allowed it to "shrink" sufficiently for it to be pulled out quite easily. Hammering it out can sometimes "rivet" the end over so you will never get it out. It is possible to break off the "ears" I have seen it done, really to get a good pull at it, it needs to pull at the edge of the trumpet housing where it bolts to the centre axle housing. It should be quite easy to make up a puller with a long bolt.

John, you solved my steering box problem a short time ago(this steering problem solved) could you send diagram or picture of puller, I will try to fabricate or purchase a puller. e-mail [email protected]
