My throttle lever keeps slipping up the whole time i'm on my tractor. I try to ignor it until the rpm's get so low it starts acting like it's going to cut off. I've been looking for the part that has the teeth or grooves or whatever you call it, but have yet to find anything. Do they sell this part or do you have to rig up something?

I have a TEA 20-85. I believe this will solve your problem. Go to the back of the dash and locate the throttle shaft. Pressing against the back of the dash is a friction washer, spring and clamping device. Loosen the clamping device and set more pressure. You might need more than two hands. I just went thru the exact same problem on my TO-20. On my particular model, the friction rings Jeff is talking about were made of rubber instead of cork. They looked as though they had been worn thin, and squished a bit. I made new ones out of cork gasket material I had laying around the garage. My cork was rather thin, I ended-up making 4 rings, gluing two together to make 2 thicker rings. I also had to really compress-down that spring clamp on the throttle rod,on the backside of the dash, that puts tension on those friction rings. That was a pain in the hind end, almost needed 3 hands to do it, and you have to rotate it just right so it doesn't bind into the battery when you move the throttle. That throttle is rock solid now!

There are two cork friction disks that keep the throttle in position and are easily replaced.

You can make you own out of cork gasket material if you wish. The disks go on either side of a washer and under the mounting bracket that holds the throttle under the dash. the dimensions would match the washer. For a MF-65 the dimensions are 1 7/8" diameter with a 9/16 hole in the middle and made of 1/8" thick cork.

YOurs would be similar. The I.D. would match the throttle shaft diameter and the O.D. would match the washer. Or if you still have some of the origional use it for dimensions.

What model tractor is it? Different tractors have different setups for holding the throttle position.

I think it is the nature of the beasts. Ours seemed to do that from new. Replaced the gasket material but didnt seem to help much. Mabe needs a gov. adjustment.

To steveormary, if the lever isnt moving out of the position you have fixed it in, it could be the governor that needs adjustment...but if the lever moves without you touching it, the friction needs adjusting or repairing on the throttl shaft under the dash panel. Yeah, the whole throttle lever moves. I have tried to just hold it in position, but my arm gets tired.

You need to adjust the spring and plate at the back of the dash panel,on the log rod that runs behind the air filter, compress the spring. It could possibly be that the friction material is worn away or highly polished, either way it would require replacing. It would be possible to make these yourself.

Ya,it was a little drastic and if I had to do it over I wouldnt sell out and move. I would just retire. Health is the reason I had to retire.
