I sure could use some help. I just found this site and its archives, wow, spent 2 hours reading yesterday. Man did I learn alot. I think I put too much weight on back of the tractor. The hydraulics always worked strong but I started to hear a high pitch sound, chattering and engine rpm would drop a little while equipment was in up position. I had to keep finding a mid range position with up/down lever to keep equipment from falling and not strain the pump. Now equipment won't lift. It's like I have lost pressure. Tractor will lift a light piiece of equipment, 300 lbs., but I have to increase RPM's. The hydraulics hold fine. I changed the rear end with fresh 85 to 90w as I fouind in the archives. I reached up thru plugs and cleaned slug. I found a piece of metal in center cavity where the pump is located. Its shape is like and old timey oil can. Solid one inch long 1/8" stem that is broken and looks like some sort of valve. There were some metal shavings also, no other big pieces. I checked the big external spring under the seat on back and it have float and when bumped hydraulics let go properly. I was standing on drawbars raising myself up and down with a lever and dropping myself down while I dropped the turnbuckle holder. I weigh 250 lbs. I am ordering a manual today. I have read in the archives about pulling the inspection cover and looking for a spray, how to drop the bottom cover and pull pump and replace check valve without removing pump. Is there a way to check hydraulic pressure and what it should be? Are pump rebuilding parts available? Any help would be appreciated.

Tim, I agree that the metal you found sounds like a broken valve stem from the pump control valve assembly (pressure control valve). Be advised that dropping the pump is not as huge a job as it may sound. I took mine out last week, replaced a cracked valve chamber assembly and the pressure control valve. I put it back together and my hydraulics work. I got lots of help from John (UK) and followed his guide sheets. One thing I will tell you is that you should have a BIG bucket under the tractor with when you pull the main drain plug. I bought 5 gallon pails (x3) and also used a oil change drain pail under the PTO when I pulled it. I also found a small parts washer a big help with this task. Good luck!

Hi Tim, That noise you heard sounds like it was the relief valve blowing, if you ran it like this for some time it could have caused some damage. You say the control spring has float in it..well it shouldnt and if it has. that has a effect on the control lever settings. you say the hydraulics don't drop but wont lift much weight, well its doesn't sound as though you have a leak on it but it could be the pump, but it could aslo be due to that control spring setting...lets hope so. the part you found in the bottom sounds like a part of a control valve, but if it was off the one in at the moment it wouldn't work so it could have been left in from a previous repair. email me at fergusontractors at hotmail dot com and I will send you all the details of how to check this out and parts list too. you can get most parts quite easily.

Only thing I can think of about the address Tim is, did you put a capital F on ferguson because it shouldnt have it should all be in lower case like this:- fergusontractors...lets hope thats all it is.
