I agree with Ray,IN. Your compression numbers, if run with the throttle wide open, look to be within the normal range for an older engine and the "with oil" compression is fine indicating valves are OK. How long since you've tuned it up? I would suspect your ignition system might be causing your rough running. Check your distributor for wear also. Make sure that your six volt system is delivering about 4.5 -5.0 volts to the coil when the points are closed.

90psi on all cylinders is actually a good engine. I suggest running the recommended 30W30 straight non-detergent HD oil as listed in the owners manual to reduce oil consumption and engine wear. The 120psi number suggests the valves, seals, and guides are is good condition, with the rings showing ordinary wear and still within usable range. I would not open the engine unless you just like to overhaul engines, new rings are not needed now.

so do you think maybe it is an ignition problem? the only thing i have done is replaced spark plugs and that was last year. any body got any napa part numbers for the coil, cap rotor plugs ect. also i have heard that champion plugs are not the best to run what would be a better plug, i am still running 6 volt system. thanks for the reply that makes me feel a little better, why would it have just started doing it though? come to think about it seems like it does it every now and then, could it be the gas should i run higher than 87 in it, whats the best/easiest way to adjust the carb too. thanks, chris

In a gravity fuel system dirt and varnish causes flow problems, always use a fuel funnel that has a fine screen in it to prevent dirt and water from getting into the tank. Keep the sediment bowl clean and drain the carb bowl frequently to remove condensation buildup. A nearly empty fuel tank will collect water condensation quickly from changing temperatures. You may test your ignition system yourself. Turn off the lights in the garage, just leaving enough to see with. Use insulated pliers to move each plug wire with tractor running and look for a fat, blueish white spark between each plug and wire. If all plugs have such a spark you may assume the ignition system is performing OK. CarQuest, NAPA, and all MF dealers carry ignition parts for Harry Ferguson tractors. I have used Champion or AC plugs for nearly 50 years in my TO30, so the brand is unimportant.

You know, I'd wonder about your fuel supply. Does it get to running rougher after its been under load for a minute or so? If so maybe you need to clean the fuel system including the bottom of the tank and float valve in the carb. Also, I've heard of junk colecting in the elbows at the ends of the steel fuel line.

I recall my TO-20 running rough intermittently and I found the wiring on the ignition switch was loose. It might be worth doing a "clean and tight" check on the wiring.
