It's me again. Hoping to get a little more info on my tractor. It has a Ferguson name plate on the front grille, and "Harry Ferguson, Ltd." on the ID plate, along with the words "Coventry" and "Standard Motor Company". The serial number is TE25345. It is located in Metter, GA. I am looking forward to recieving any and all info that anyone may be able to share, on its history and origin, etc.

Thanks again to John (UK) and Jeff-oh for their replys. I really appreciate the help.
Sam

If it says TE25345 its a Continental engine...and TO manuals will not be any use to you there are quite a few differences between a TE and a TO other than the engine....so get TE manuals

A Search for TE shop manuals will get you the TEA manual, which will be totally useless for the TE-20 with Z120 motor owner.

John, the TO manual recomendation is a US thing. Over here all the owner manuals labled for a TE are really TEA manuals, which do not apply to a TE model. Unless you really know the difference and can get a good look at it 99% of the time you will get the wrong manual. Barry Reid in Onterio had that problem.

The recomended TO owners manual deals with the contential engine and lubracation of the chasie. No difference here. The Shop Service manual (again shows up under the TO search) for the TO-20, TE-20 and TO-30 is the one he wants. This shop manual is subdivided to cover the differences between the TE and the TO.

Also, over here people do not know what a TE-20 really is. They are automaticly equated with the TEA. Even my "professional" MF repairman didn't know about the TE.

Respectfully,
Jeff

Your comments noted, but as far as I am aware the Continental engine is included in the Genuine TE20 manual plus the gearbox, clutch, steering box and brakes are different on the TO20 that was why I said the TE20 manual would be better for him....I do know if you buy the non genuine manual what you say would be true. Can you get genuine manuals in US Jeff?.. Regarding the TO20 in parts of Canada they have never even seen one...only TE's..does make you wonder. Thanks for your input.

John,
You expressed my point exactly... "...is included in the Genuine TE20 manual..." That is the problem. Very few people know the difference on what at TE is vs. a TEA.

I am sure that the origional TE manuals can be found, I base my comments on the manuals that come up in a web search.

The manual sites I have seen provide only a comprehensive TE_"letter searies" manual when you request a "TE" manual.

As for Canada, I think most of the -20 Fergusons there were actually TEA's.

Also, specifficly I was talking about the owners manual which covers lubrication points and schedules, engine service, and operating instructions.

You are correct that the "Shop" manual need to be TE specific. Anyway it sounds like we are saying basicl the same thing.

Jeff

Hey Jeff, Thanks for that...But we use the term TE20 for the whole range of tractors produced here in UK which includes all the derivatives of the tractor..and in our TE20 manual it covers all variations and specifications and there is only the one manual and always has been, basically the manual you get today is the same one we had about 50 years ago. Maybe because you don't have such a big range of tractors like we had that is what is causing the problem and you say TE20 and TEA20...obviously we split it down like that as well but just talking about the range of tractors we tend to say TE20. Maybe one day we will get this thing right between us. I think you are right in saying that mostly the tractors in Canada are TEA's seems like most of the TE's seem to have gone to USA with a few exceptions. Do you know if they ever sent any TE20 Diesels (TEF) over there? I have never seen any mention of them but I know of at least one company in US that supplies parts for that engine (20c)so it made me wonder if perhaps they did.

Based on the serial number you have a 1948 TE-20 tractor made by Harry Ferguson Inc. at the Coventry England plant for shipment to the US. These Tractors were shipped here while Ferguson was getting the Detroit plant up and running. You should have a Contential Z-120 engine in this tractor. To verify look at the left side of the engine near the bottom for the cast numbers.

For shop manuals, engine repair, etc... Do not buy the books labeled for the TE but get the TO-20 books. Many people confuse a true TE-20 with the more numerous TEA-20. The TEA has different engine and thus the repair manuals are different. Read the archives and the link Ray gave and you will soon know the whole story.
