I just purchased a tractor on the front it has
Ferguston. The plate on the dash has Harry Ferguson. The number is TE25345 I was told
it is a 1957. The transmission has 1-2-3-S
on it.
Please tell me what year it is and what does the S standfor on the transmission. Also what engine
is in it. It is a 4 cylinder gas engine. THANKS

Sam

Sam,

I think you were given a wrong date. If you are in the US then you deffintly have a 1948 Fergusen TE20 and it will have a contential Z120 gasoline engine in it. This is a great tractor and a little rarer than the TO-20's and TEA-20's

Where are you located?

John told you correctly that the S is for start. But be aware sometimes this was re-wired to a push button start on the dash or a key start.

TE 24292.

Thanks everyone for answering my questions. My tractor has red sheet metal and wheels and grey running gear. My tractor does have both a key and a push button start. Also on the name plate behind the steering wheel is "Harry Ferguson, Ltd." and "Coventry" and "The Standard Motor Company". The engine now is red with a black valve cover. It is located in Metter, Georgia, which is about 60 miles west of Savannah, GA.

Thanks again for any help with identification of this tractor. Sam
I will probably be checking back with you with more questions

Sam,

You are more than welcome, This is a very friendly site with a wealth of knowledge. We have a Global crowd here with regulat posters from Australia and New Zealand, Canada as well as the US and the UK where the tractors were manufactured.

The archive search is very good, so try there first as most questions have been asked several times. If you cannot find an answer then deffently feel free to post the question.

Jeff

Something quite wrong here with the info you are giving us...that number is from a 1948 tractor, Harry Ferguson would NOT have been on that plate after about 1954 (I think that was the date)it would then have been Massey-Harris-Ferguson. A TE20 would have 4 gears plus reverse not 3 and the "S" stands for "Start" you push the gear lever to this position and the starter operates (its so you can't start it in gear)The engine at that number could have been either a Standard motors gas engine or a Continental Z120 gas engine. The way to tell is the Standard engine has an oil filter on the left side of the engine below the distributor, the continental has the filter inside the oil pan and it has a large round plate on the pan to get at it. BUT...if you have read the number incorrectly it could be an FE35 but the number prefix would be 3 letters then the number and that could be 1957 and the engine would be a Standard 4 cyl gas as previous (only more power) and be grey with gold engine and transmission. That would have a 3 speed box and reverse with another lever alongside to give high and low range with a nuetral "Start" position. The plate at that time would have shown Massey-Ferguson. the three prefix letters would have been something like SG F or M.Have fun sorting that out.

Just somehing else I thought of...if its a 1957 tractor it will be 12 volt if its earlier model it will be 6 volt and the UK changed over to 12 volt in 1951
