I have a '50 TO-20 that burns a little oil, enough to throw wisps of blue smoke while running. I have been considering adding one of those oil additives that is suppose to reduce oil burning and smoking. Is this stuff any good ? Will it gunk-up my engine? What do you think?

Dear sir,

I have had those same problems with several engines,and although it seems so easy to just use an oil additive,my expierience is that it is no good.I am afraid that the only right way to solve this problem is to put new rings on your pistons.After having done that i reccomend to use slick 50 as an additive wich will reduce the friction and therefore make the engine stay in good shape longer.Of course you should never race the engine as long as the temerature is too low because then the lubricating film will get away and you will cause metal on metal friction.

George... If you can buy in your area "Mystick" JT8 motor oil I would try that first... It takes several oil changes before the smoking stops. It costs a little bit more but well worth it... Try your farm stores...
