As posted a month or so ago, I got a deal on a 4' John deere bush hog with no shaft. Patience and perserverence will get a man to Jeruselem on the back of a snail...I've got several shafts now at a cost of $20.00. Problem not solved. If I understand correctly, the pto shaft should be 11/8 ...well, it's 13/8... there is a slightly bell shaped addition to the shaft with 2 grease fittings and 13/8 splines. Since I've only used the to for scraping and harrowing I've not had the pleasure of using the PTO. I only have one good shot of having one shaft welded up from 3 different shafts. Is 13/8 the standard, and what might be the attachment to the PTO? An ORC or just an adaptor??? Thanks in advance Mike

TSC (TRactor Supply Company)has 1-1/8 to 1-3/8 adapters in their catalog. goto www.mytscstore.com

slips over the pto drive spindle on the tractor, lets you connect a 1-3/8 PTO shaft to the tractor.

1 3/8 is the standard size PTO shaft for the TO Fergusons. You can probably find an adapter to use ASE attachments, at least my manual says you can.

Harry Ferguson TO series tractors came with a 1 1/8" spline. Aftermarket PTO shafts are made with the "modern" 1 3/8" spline. Whichever you have works. Adaptors are readily available to increase from the small to the large spline. Since you are fabricating a PTO shaft anyway I suggest making it 1 3/8" to avoid later problems if you buy a new tractor. I experienced this with an old Woods 4' cutter I dragged out of some bushes at a salvage yard. You'll like the 4' cutter, our old Fergusons handle them very well without overworking the tractor any.

Sorry about that, I read the manual wrong. The original PTO shaft is 1 1/8.

What you describe as bell shaped, with 2 grease fittings sounds like my ORC.

Make the end of your implement shaft 1 3/8", as that is the standard.
If your tractor pto is 1 1/8" you can get an ORC that has a 1 1/8" "input" and a 1 3/8" "output".
I have that on mine - and it looks just like what you describe is on yours. (If you take out the grease fittings and turn it, you will find a place where the two holes for the grease fittings line up with a roll pin that holds the ORC onto the tractor pto shaft.)
