PTO seal again

I just took apart my spare pto shaft to put in a new seal, so I can just swap the whole assembly with the one that's leaking on my tractor.
1. It had no circlip on the end of the shaft, and also no apparent place for one. Then I noticed a 9N part number on the housing, so maybe the circlip was something that they added in later years.
2. The seal OD is 2 7/16", and the ID is 1 5/8". The old one was 7/8" wide so you could fit two 3/8" ones which would be CR16201, or one 5/8" one whiich would be CR16189. 3. A CR 16204 would also fit; it is .64" wide, but the first two numbers above are listed as preferred so may be more readily available.

The surface that the seal will bear upon is pretty rough so I will try to get a Speedi-sleeve so we'll see how that goes. Never put one on before - how do you install them? Special expensive tool that you have to buy just because you need it once?

I used two of the narrow seals on my 9N. Found that they would run on an unused area of the shaft. Works Great. No leaks.

Well I ended up putting in one 16201 and it appears to ride on a previously unused area like you say, which is good, since a Speedi-sleeve in this size is $48 and not long enough to cover the length of the collar anyway.
We'll see how it works; maybe this weekend I'll get a chance to install it.
