I left my TE20 Fergie in gear by mistake last weekend and now I cannot get it out! I have tried rocking the tractor and pulling and pushing the gearstick to no avail. Help! Anyone have any ideas?

Many thanks to those who suggested options. For anyone else who may get this problem, it was due to the gear stick coming out of the right slot in the shifter fork because, presumably, of its sloppiness. Taking off the gear stick and puttting it back with the end in the right slot fixed it.

My grandfather owns a TO30 and it's been known to stick in gear. The only thing we do to unlock it is take off the cap to transmission case and move a little slider inside it back and forth untill it lets go. Hope you figure somthing out.

I recently repaired a TEF which would not stay in gear. The detents for the shifter rail had siezed in the casting on the 1st 2nd selector rail. Had to take the top off and use a fair bit of penetrating oil to free it off, then stripped and cleaned both detent and hole and rebuilt with a coating of copper slip. Fortunately this one had siezed in the 'up' position, but if siezed down then this would cause you to be stuck in gear. If the big screwdriver trick doesn't work then this might be the cause of your problem. Don't go too mad with the screwdriver, I have seen a fair few broken selectors on these boxes.

I had a similar problem last year on my TO-30 and the PTO bound up the transmission and it would not shift. I removed the brushhog I was using and turned the engine over with the crank and it freed right up. If this is what happened to you, tehn you won't be able to line up the gears by removing the shifter. This is all the light I can shed, but there are many more experienced persons here who I'm sure will have ideas.

seems to me i had that problem on my Te 20 ,all i did was take off the gear stick and with a large screwdriver i was able to line up the rails in the top of the gearbox again ,i think it was easy otherwise i would remember it more vividly
