Thermostat for TE-20

Has anyone on here run a thermostat gage on a TO20 or TE20? I have a blown head gasket right now so I stop every-so-often to check the water. But I would like to have a temperature gage so I can keep any eye on things.

I just installed a temp. guage on my TO-20. Used the threaded port on the left side of the coolant disharge manifold. I bought a guage at the local tractor parts store, it said it was for a Ford NAA/600/700. It was a perfect fit.

Chris, there should be a threaded hole in the LH side of the thermostat housing (Standard engine) which takes the 'bulb' for an ether-filled capillary tube which then leads back to the dash, and a thermostat gauge.

If there is no threaded hole, either add one, or get a s/h thermostat housing that has said hole, fit it to your tractor, and add the gauge/tube etc. Simple.

While your at it, you could do the old girl a favour and fix the head gasket - think of the pain the engine is in . . . . .

If you don't want to stick with the factory style version, you could add a solid state version courtesy of your local electronics store, and then have it shut down the engine if it overheats for more than a couple of minutes? Nah, too much effort, and Harry would not have approved!

Yeah, I already have the head gasket. It took a couple of weeks for it to come in after bI ordered it. I just need $300 so that I can get the tractor shop to replace it.

300 dollars? I'd do it for less - 'course you'd have to get it over here, first (only kidding!!)

Seriously, if you're even half way mechanically minded, doing head gaskets is not a big deal - ask anyone on here. These tractors were designed to be serviced and maintained in an age where a mechanic was viewed as being close to Him upstairs - it isn't difficult - just takes a bit of time.
