TEA Timing Advance an Generator

I'm trying to advance my timing in order to stop the hunting problem . I attempted this by loosening the set screw at the base of the distributor assembly. I then attempted to rotate it but it simply would not move in any direction. Any ideas ? Once I get it moving is advancing the timing rotating it clockwise or counter clockwise?

When not connected to the regulator the generator produces 2.5 volts from large post to ground. When connected to the regulator it produces 10X that amount , around 25 volts from large post to ground. Does the regulator step up the voltage???

The distributor is likely just stuck from years of sitting in one spot. They can be really tough to free up but keep working at it. You might take the whole thing out and have a go at it on the bench.
Rotate it clockwise to advance the timing.
Regarding the regulator, no it does not step up the voltage. My understanding is that it feeds back to the field whatever is required to keep the large terminal at the proper voltage. Something sounds fishy with your electrical system. I looked into regulators at the local MF dealer and they are very expensive. It would be far cheaper to put a one-wire alternator on than just the regulator alone, although you have to monkey around with mounting it and dealing with the wide belt etc.

You are right Jim the voltage is fed back to the F lug , origianlly I was measuring without feeding it back from the regulator and that why I was getting the odd voltage readings. Now it's generating 14.5 volts , it's a thing of beauty, thanks.
