MF 35 Purchase Questions

Has diesel engine and dual range 3 speed. Steering is sloppy but I should be able to tighten that up with the steering box screws.

Question: Does this tractor have LIVE PTO or does anyone know, with this 6 speed tranny?

Problems with this diesel? Is this a Perkins or did Continental build diesels also?

Any other problems?

UK models had 4 cylinder Standard Motor Company engine early ones and Perkins 3 cylinder 3.152 later. Standard engine is a famously poor starter unless you have a block heater or "cold climate" head fitted. This has individual heater plugs for each cylinder. Perkins is a very good engine and, for a usable tractor is about as good a tractor as you'll find. (Cue loud disagreements) Don't know about US models so can't tell you much about Continental engined ones, if there were any. For quick ID, Standard engine model has exhaust on right hand side, Perkins engine is on left as well as difference in number of cylinder.

I bought it with 6 speed and Live PTO. Engine is 3.15 Perkins. Starts real easy, breaks are great pulls stout, original tin is next to perfect with a pretty good paint job. Only problem is clutch pedal holding PTO open is a bear. Am working on that now. So now I had to call friend and tell her that I wanted the tractor and she could have mine. She said ok. That's that.
