Is there a problem with these motors?

I had a local tractor place told me that the TE20, TO20, and TO30 were faulty. He said the motors would slit down the middle where they were put together and the best thing I could do with my 48 TE20 would be to get rid of it. I find it strange that after 50 years the engine would just fall apart.

Sounds to me like the dealer is trying to sell you a new tractor!! The Standard or Continental engines will run forever if properly looked after.

I have heard those comments before , but they are about as far from the truth as you could get .I have a neighbor that bought a T0-20 and a TO-30 brand new in the early 1950;s and their both still doing hard field work today . I have a T0-35 with the continental engine and I would never sell it because it runs too good .Dont worry yours will outlive the guy thats telling you to get rid of it .

Chris;

We had a TE-20 for about 15 years and a TO-30 untill 2002. WE worked them steady but not hard. Just keep good antifreeze in them and dont let them overheat. They were good tractors for us.

Like Steve said, these are good sound motors that are very long running - if properly maintained! There are many neglected Ferguson gas engines out there that have been "pinned" together with large bolts because they were ran overheated and the block cracked. These engines are not any more apt to have problems than any other gasoline engine - IF PROPERLY MAINTAINED! Regrettably tractors are the most often neglected machinery used,however they still work after 60 years.

Thanks. He kept saying things like "when rev it wide open". I didn't think this made any sense beings how all the specs i've seen were done around 2000 RPM.
