I just bought a Ferguson F40 utility style tractor. Its a 1957 with a serial number of 40690I. Anyone now what the "I" stands for?

Its in pretty nice shape but painted Red and gray. It was clean and ran well. Paid $3000 for it, couldn't get them to come down any more then that so I gave in. Always wanted one. Any other F40 owners out there?

Congrats on the purchase and welcome to the club of F40s. There are several of us around and you can get a lot of help with questions from this forum. BTW, the last digit of your serial number is not an "I" but rather a "1". It's that way in other serial numbers also.

You got the tractor for a good price particularly if it is in good shape. How many hours on the meter?

Joe,

There was a tad over 4300 hours on it. Its been used for brush hogging from what I understand. Actually got it at a ford dealership. They described it as dented but when I got there there were very few dents. Now my 1947 JD BO is for sale. One other interesting thing is that they had a TO30 there to, I liked it but was not nearly in the shape of this F40.
