I'm so glad to find a site where othere have been as frustrated as I have with the 6 volt starting system on an old ferguson, and have converted over to 12 volts! Where do I start? Can anyone help with make and models of 12v starters, generators/altenators, and what else?....coil?...condenser?...different mounting brackets?....anything else required?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!! I'm located near Portland, Oregon, and I'm ready to start. (anybody want to buy some 6v stuff?)

Contact Genesee Products @918 274-8000 or [email protected]. They have everything but the bracket to install a 12 volt system cheaply. I used their set-up 2 years ago with no problems. Be sure to get the wide pulley for the alternator.

Thanks Paul for your input. Between you and the others that have answered I've got it wired...or WILL have it wired soon. The articles in the Research and Info section spell it all out nicely. Yes, I'm considering the Genesee kit!

Hey I agree with marlowe but I converted one of my five fergusons to 12 volt what I did was find a 12 volt generator from a massey with the same mount ( I think its off of a combine ) and installed a 12 volt coil with new 12volt sealed beams, this kept it in the original look. But if I was going to do it again I would take a simpler way and just install a 8 volt battery don't have to change anything else.

Scott - Just wondering where I can get an 8 volt battery? Are they available at farm/auto stores? The 6 volt battery in my TO-35 is dying and you've got me thinking about replacing it with an 8 volt, leaving everything else alone. Are they the same size as a 6V? Thanks. Mike P

this is a real pet peave of mine when people think that a 12v conversion will fix all. that 6v has been working for 50+ years and 12v will NOT fix poor mantance!when is the last time you changed plugs,checked the timing, put in new points, checked the electrieal syt.starter gen.batt.and most important the battery cables are they 0 size and not some junk from wal-mart. you can get a 6v one wire alt. with +or- ground. i have 2 to-20s on 6v and both start at -30 and at any other time i ask them to
