Just traded for an MF 399 from a New Holland dealer, I previously had a New Holland tractor, so my cylinders are all full of NH oil. I asked the dealer about this, as I've heard and read of problems with mixing different tractor brands of hydraulic oil. He said not to worry, it was all the same now, that they put NH134G oil in everything that came thru there. I couldn't help from being skeptical. I don't mind draining my cylinders if necessary.
Does anyone have any knowledge on this matter?

I don't have a problem with mixing General Lubrication oils (GL-XXX)with transmission/hydraulic fluids. It's not like oil and water. It's organic oil and organic oil. You'd up the viscosity though and winter lift operation would suffer....slow down.

Here's food for thought for anyone skeptical.

What do you think has gone on for the last 40 years in Ford tractors (millions sold) which have 3 compartments and the first and last is GL oil and the middle is hy/trans? Since there are 2 shafts protruding thru the interfaces, and they turn in seals, and the seals wear out, and on and on.

Rest my case.

Oils have a designation like GL1, GL2, and so on. If this designation is the same, the oils are compatible I think.
