I just purchased a TO 30. It has been converted to 12 volts using a generator not an alternator. it has a voltage regulator. The ammeter was disconnected as the meter itself was nonfunctional. I have a new meter and would like to hook it up but I am not sure exactly what to connect it to.

Most 12V conversions result from thinking it will improve starting. It will, but not from the voltage increase. During the process the electrical connections are removed, cleaned, and reinstalled or new cables used. this is actually what improves starting. A 6V system will perform just as well as a 12V system when properly maintained. 6V cables must be used because 12V cables are way too small to carry the 6V current. Anyway- The original wiring diagram is below, and since you have a 12V generator the wiring should be the same.
