Tool Kit?

Does anyone know if there are Ferguson tool kits for their tractors? That is, all the correct size wrenches that fit all the different size drain plugs and other nuts and bolts?

If not, can someone tell me the size wrench I need for the oil pan of a TO-30? I have a set of American wrenches and they don't fit the plugs. I've been using a crecent wrench but I'm starting to strip the plugs (the square drain plugs) and I don't want to do that. The plugs are still fine, but I know its gonna take some muscle to get the plugs loose and I want the right size, open end wrench so I don't keep stripping the plugs.

Jason, just a thought, are you turning the correct way Left to Loosen, Right to tighten. I caught myself turning the wrong way only because I was upside down under the tractor.

I tell you what Terry, I have a difficult time figuring that out. But, I think I have a decent system: I sit on the tractor and facing forward, I then turn the front wheels in the "right" or "left" direction and this tells me which way to turn the wrench. However, I've found myself going the wrong way, even with this system, it was on one of the differential/transmission drain plugs. But, once I figured it out, I had actually tightend the plug, I think. Then trying to go left, I started to strip the bolt, and I stopped. But, that was with a cheap adjustable wrench. Hence my desire to get the correct fitting open end wrench without buying 5 different pieces separately, or buying another set.

These wrench companies have you by the balls. They put sets together that skip sizes so you have to either buy another separate wrench, or a whole different size kit. Bastards.

Jason, Something I learned many years ago "Lefty - Loosey ; Righty - Tighty" Also when I am useing a ratched wrench, before I go upside down to take off a nut I check it out. As for the correct wrench put a micrometer or caliper on it before you go to buy a new one. Luckily for me I have access to low cost tools here in SW Michigan. Good luck

Hi Jason, my parts book only shows 4 wrenches for the Ferguson tool box. They are open end wrenches with a differnet size on each end as follows:

3/8"-7/16"
1/2"-9/16"
11/16"-1-1/16"
spark plug is hex head and either 7/8" or 1".

There are other tools in t he box, like wrench handles and wheel/tire bars etc. but that should get you in the ball park as far as standard issue wrenches.

If they have not been changed, engine oil pan plug is 3/4 wrench size, transmission drain plug
small one is 5/8 have seen some 11/16 and the larger one is 1 inch at rear end
I have seen some changed with standard pipe plugs with the smaller 5/8 size, they do tend to round off rather easily when using an adjustable wrench, you can dress then up with a die grinder if need be...

ohhh they did make wrench kits for them but can't remeber how many and what sizes were in them ...

Well, this is strange because, like I said, I have a set of wrenches, one of which is a 3/4, and it does not fit (the engine oil drain plug). Its too small. Wrenches are expensive to buy so I didn't want to have to guess.

I've also tried a 5/8 and a 7/8 and neither fits. I'm thinking an 11/16 might fit, but I don't have one so I'll have to buy it.

I'll check again to see if the 3/4 does actally fit the engine oil drain plug. Perhaps I'm just too impatient to make it work. Again, thanks for the info.

P.S. I'd love to be able to get an original set of Ferguson wrenches that are made for this TO-30.

I would measure it with a tape measure before you buy it, be a little hard to do on the tractor but it can be done. I just looked at mine again and it is a 3/4 ...
try looking on ebay for the tool set, they are there sometimes,
