Restore, or leave it alone...

I know in the world of antiques (my wife's a BIG collector) (...not that she's a big woman, she just collects a lot of things... : ) sometimes it's best to NOT restore and repaint things. My TO-35 I recently got is in excellent shape, always in a barn, no dents, and runs great! The paint is a little faded, but all the tags and sticker are still on it. Some of you know I recently got this at my best friend's grandparent's farm auction. I wanted to shoot it red and gray and get them a photo with their dog (...yes, we took their dog too since they're in a home now...) and get it to them to show them things are being taken care of. Then I thought, "Maybe I should just leave well enough alone." I'm not looking for resale value here, I'm planning on keeping it, so any opinions on keeping it original or should I attempt a ameature restoration (just paint) to help preserve what bare metal that is showing now?? I know this is a matter of personal preference, but I'm curious what the general consensus of you tractor folks think. Thanks for any thoughts/advice!!
Dana (I'll take photos soon and show it off!)

Work it, have fun with it, get used to looking at it for awhile. If, after a period of time you want to spruce it up, go ahead. If you do it right you can keep it 'original'. Chances are though, after a period of time, it will look fine just the way it is.

If it is as you say I would wax it and leave it be. An unrestored original always gets my attention.

First before you even consider paint, you need to know what color to paint it. For that you will need the serial number, look to the left under "Research & Info" click on serial numbers to find what year your tractor is. 1954 to 1955 To35's were Gray sheet metal & Green cast; '56 & '57 they were Beige sheet metal & Flint Gray cast. '58 on they were Red Sheet metal & Flint Gray cast. AS for the need to paint that is all personall, I repainted mine '57, now I am reluctant to use it as much if had I not. & If you are going to paint it take your time and do it correct. If you can't I would say it is best to leave it as is. Have fun & be safe.

Now I'm a little confused. The serial number states it's a '57, but it's red and grey. Perhaps really late '57 and got the red/grey treatment of the '58s?? It's never been repainted or anything, so I know that's original.
