T0 30 cam in TO 20?

A friend of mine used to have a TO 20...when he needed a new cam all he could find was a TO 30, so he used it, he said that he had more power/torgue and better running all the way around with this cam change...anyone else ever tried it? He also said was a slip in swap...same cam bearings, rockers etc...

My Ferguson Manual says not to to do it. The only difference in the cam timing is that the TO-20 has a longer duration in the intake stroke. The manual also states that the TO-30 cam lobes are "redesigned, therefore, it should used only in the TO-30 engine." The parts manual doesn't show any difference in the valve springs, lifters ,pushrods, or rockers. So I don't know why it couldn't be done. It should make a bit more power becuase of the longer duration on the intake valve allowing more air into the engine.
