TO-35 plow size

Can anyone give me their advice on plow size for a TO-35? My owners manual says it's a 2/3 bottom plow tractor. I have clay-loam soil, and will only plow about 10 acres tops. There are several auctions this weekend with both 2 and 3 bottom plows (3 pt). Just wondering if it is worth it to look at the 3 bottoms? Let me know what you all think. Thanks.

my dad plowed for many years usuing a 3x plow with his 55 TO-35. the "35" handled it easily.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I had a feeling 3 bottoms would be too much. Like I mentioned in a post down below, there are several nice 2 bottoms at a consignment auction this weekend. I'm hoping to get a good deal on one of them. I'll let you all know how I make out.

Absolutly no 3 bottom. Harry was very optimistic about his ratings as were most manufacturers. 2 14" plows will do very well and will, in most cases, plow more per hour than 3 bottom cause you will be able to go up a gear or so. I have farmed up to 500 acres with a TO-30 in my stable and also 2N Ford-Fergusons. These also handled 2-14" plows well.

I hate to disagree but I have the original set of 3 bottoms plows that came with our '55 TO-35 that my dad bought new. It was the second tractor that I learned to drive. The first was our TO-20 ( Still have it too But it is in really sad shape. Siezed up. Rusted up. Very Very Vintage) He had factory wheel weights and calcium filled tires put on the 35 when it was new. I took the weights off and no more filled tires. Dad passed away 12 years ago at 83 yrs. old. The TO-35 just turned 3,400 hrs. It always had a frontend loader too but I took that off too. Yes, we plowed about 50 acres every year with the 3 bottom plow and The Fergy did it well. We have great ground but there is a good bit of limestone. Love my tractors, Have a 1972 MF1080 and 2003 New Holland TC-35D with bucket and backhoe. Have a Great week ..... .... Landon

I use a 2x14 regularly with my to35 its just right a 3x will be just a little much....

Justin,

I have a JD 415 3x14 plow that is a converted 2x14. When the 3 bottoms came out they offered a add on kit to turn the 2 bottoms into a 3 bottom. Thus if your interested it let me know. I need to clean the yard up a bit. Are you near Pittsburg?

Jeff, I am actually up near Erie. Where are you located? There is a consignment auction I am going to on Saturday just 3 miles up the road. I stopped tonight and saw maybe ten 2 and 3 bottom plows. There are at least 3 decent 2x14's, one is even a Ferguson. If I don't find a good deal Saturday, I might be interested in your JD. Thanks.

Erie, Great.

I am in SW Oh near Cincinnati, However the out-laws live near Youngstown, and I will be going there on the July 4th weekend.

Speeking of July 4. Did you know about the Ferguson club tractor show near Ashtabula that weekend. That is one reason we are going up there that weekend.

I was not aware of the show. Can you forward me some details? My grandfather lived in Youngstown for several years. We have several relatives down in the New Castle, PA area, which is not far from Youngstown. Thanks for the info!

It is 1/2 way between Youngstown and Ashtabula. near Wayne, Oh. US 322 and Ohio 11. It is the FENA "Ferg. Enthuests of N. America" national gathering on the July 4th weekend. I don't have my FENA news letter with me I will post above.

A 3-14 might be a little much for a TO-35.You could buy a 3 bottom and if it works the tractor too hard remove a bottom and have some spare parts. 2-14,s was about right for our TO-30 and TE-20.
