TO-20 fan belt

The fan belt on my TO-20 finally went. The first task is to find a new one, so the question is where do I get one and if it can be had at an auto parts sotre, what "modern" belt numbers work?

The next question is replacement of the belt with the obtstacle of the loader pump shaft. I have not taken it apart yet, but I am concerned about the connecting point of the shaft and the lower engine drive pulley. Are they bolted together?

Any thoughts and suggestions would be helpful and much appreciated.

i just did mine so here goes ,i took the bolts holding the pump to the front bracket offand moved the pump as far forward as it would go,best if you have a container beneath your area of work as there are some bushings on the crank pully ,there are 4 of them and if they are worn they should be replaced now,,now loosen your generator and push it towards the block,put the new belt over the fan and workit down to the crank pully just get it around 1 stud at a time and it will go, then put it on the generator and adjust ,in my case i took out the plugs so i could move the crank by hand ,not a bad job have patience and lots of time.Goodluck

I am not sure I completely follow your question about fit up but I'll stab at it.

I don't think there is a need to take much apart. The generator should be on a pivot. Lossen the clamp bolt and it should pivot to loosen the fan belt (if it were there.)

To get the belt on just loop it over one fan blae at a time then you can fit it over the fan pulley and then the generator pulley. Finally rotate the generator to put tension on the belt and tighten the generator bolt to lock in place.

Belt tension should be ~ 1/2 inch of deflection half way between the fan and generator.

Yes any good auto parts store should be able to fix you up.

Hi Rick. If you have a piece of the old one, that will give the parts house the "pitch", take a rope and wrap it around the pulleys and you'll have the length. I usually buy 3 belts. One short, one in the middle, and one long. They come in 1/2" incriments and I return the 2 that don't fit. Hope this helps. Good luck, have fun!

im sorry i didnt answer your question about the belt number ,i get all my parts from Pittsburg tractor in Texas ask for a lady named Jan just tell her give you the same belt as dan from ct ,im not nearmy tractor now or i would tell you

Thanks for all the feedback. I did get it fixed without much frustration. The key issue was how the pump shaft was connected to the lower belt pulley and if it could easily be seperated so the new belt could pass through. Fortunately, as Danny notes, it is via studs. Loosening the pump and sliding it forward 3/4 of an inch leaves only the task of getting the belt past the studs one at a time. Not as big a deal as I thought. Thanks again..
