Do I apply heat to the bolt itself or the area around the bolt to get it loose?

Thank you Glenn & Greg for your response. The bolt I has stuck are the front axle spacer bolts. Looks like they have never been removed & I have to to apply a new bumper. Thanks again.

Depends on where it is and what it is attaching, if there is a chance of burning up a seal or gasket, you can always use an arc or mig welder on the head of the bolt to assure majority of the heat only goes to the bolt...just weld a puddle into the middle of the bolt trying not to mess up the flats, turn out bolt after 'red' is gone, but before completely cool...

By the way,you can also use arc/mig welder to remove broken off bolts that have no head left..if the broken bolt stub is above the surface, just weld on a nut to stub...if below the surface..weld into stub until flush or above surface and weld on a nut to turn...

Apply heat to the bolt only, Get it hot, near glowing, but dont over heat surrounding cast iron.
