Ebay ad also said it had a recent oil change...but the oil in the motor doesnt look like regular motor oil...totally clear...could this be mineral oil? and will that be ok in the tractors motor? Thanks, Glen

The 30w in both of my tractors appears to be clear.

Fresh engine oil in a tractor should look like fresh engine oil in a car-a straw type brownish color. Drain it and replace it with fresh 10W40. Don't forget to replace the oil filter too.

Don't think one would want to use 10W40 in an older engine that has not been rebuilt with new seals and the like. Could make the old seals start leaking and cause the oil to plug up with gunk somewhere. I just straight 30 in my old TO20.

John is right, the owners manual states: use 30w30 in summer and 20w20 in winter, both are non-detergent oils. Others may treat thier machinery as they please; as for me, I follow the owner's manual faithfully as my Dad had done since he bought it new in 1953. The engine's never been apart nor does it use oil, smoke, or have any unusual noises.
