TO-30 oil pressure

Hi Guys. I have a T0-30. The oil pressure is riding just up on the green. After running a little it drops to the high part of the red. What is normal, and what can i do to fix it? Thanks

Ours ran for a long time with 0 at idle and 5 wide open.

My Ferguson manual says that the oil pressure should not be lower that 15 psi at idle with the engine warmed up. I don't know what you red zone guage means. Check it with a guage that reads in psi by undoing the block fitting and putting a pressure guage in the tapped hole.

When you start with 30 lbs. max to begin with then along with wear and tear, so if you end up with 10 lbs. you should be ok.

Don't know what weight oil you're using. Low oil pressure usually a result of wear to the main bearings, cam bearings and rocker shaft bushings. Using a straight weight sae 40 may be a short term cure to prolong overhaul. Oil pump is an outside possibility also.

Thanks guys; I am using castrol 20w40 in the T0-30,Maybee i will go to sae 40 and give it a try. Is it a big job to rebuile the oil pump?

Randy just switch to 30w30 non-detergent oil like the owner's manual states. The oil pump is quite easy to change out, just follow the procedures in the shop manual if you are hesitant; otherwise just drop the pan and have at it. The oil pump relief valve is set to 35psi when new so don't believe the claims of higher pressure from stock pumps. If any pressure is regestering on the gauge and the valves tappets are not rattling you likey don't have a problem.
