Oil Pan Gasket Sealer ?

I had to pull the oil pan off my TO-30 to fix the oil pickup . The replacement oil pan gasket is just paper . Do I need to use some gasket sealer also ?

I need to get her back up and running .

Please let me know .

If you are planning to not pull the oil pan again for a good long time, I would use a sealer,it is cheap insurance, especially around the rear bearing, and the front gov. plate. The grooves where those parts machine fit into the block just look like places where paper alone on the oil pan might have trouble filling in the gaps. The down side to using a sealer is you have to scrape it down the next time you break that seal.... probably would have to do that anyway though.
I like the "old fashioned" brush on sealers best when using paper, not that silicon stuff that oozes out and might break loose inside the oil pan.

The old paper gasket was working was it not? New ones are available from MF dealers. This is not like automotive thin pans that warp easily. If it makes you feel more comfortable go ahead and use a gasket sealer, just insure none gets into the interior where it may break off and find its way into the oil pump.
