Lights ??? for Phil Fenner

Phil, or any one really,

Over the weekend I tried to re-hook up my lights on the TE-20. I have two GE bulbs in the front and one in the rear. No tarus light, not sure if the rear light has a switch on it or not. They had been disconnected prior to me getting the tractor.

The wire going to the lights was infact cut just at the dash side of the conduit tubes.

I followed the circuit diagram in my shop manual and hooked up my switch and then to the severed wire. No good. I did not have my VOM to check for an open circut. I wanted to replace the wire in the conduits, however they have been kinked enough that the wire is stuck in there.

Other Than a bad switch, grounded wire, bad bulbs is their anything else to look for?

Also are there new conduits available or is it just as easy to make your own? (aluminum tubing and a flairing tool, maybe?)

Thanks, Jeff

Jeff, before you go too far, pls check the ground connections. These are typically the problem. Rust over the yrs or too loose a connection perhaps. A quick way is to run a jumper from a good batt ground connection to each light ground. If they light up you have found the problem or check the lamps separately from the tractor wiring. From your description of the wiring it would seem the power wiring should work, unless the toggle switch is burned out. Maybe it is not rated for the amps needed. Can't answer your other TE20 questions but I am sure the TE experts will.

Check and see if the lights run off the start switch. My TO30 does, you turn the switch to the
right to the first notch to start.Turn right to second notch for the lights and the third notch will kill the engine.

My replacement key switch is two positions, on and off. There is a toggle switch for the lights. The circuit for the lights consists of
* "0" gauge wire from battery to an in-dash starter button (not origional)
* Jumper wire to toggle switch
* Jumper wire from switch to fwd lamps. and one to rear lamp.
* Lamps presumably grounded to hood-frame. This has not been checked.
* ground cable from frame to battery.

As a secondary note... my voltage regulator has three leads off of it. It was painted so I could not read the lead Identification. Is this a TO-20 replacement possibly? The wiring diagram for the TE-20 Voltage reg. shows four... of course one is a ground and my not actually be a lead. Any insite? (remember I have a TE-20, and in this area it is not the same as the TO-20)

Thanks
Jeff
