SBJ, Welcome, I am sure I will repeat several of the points made below, but I have skimmed the replies, so forgive me if I repeat. Manuals are readily available. You should get the Shop service manual (~$13.00) and an ownwers manual (~$9.00) Prices vary widely and I have seen these for over $30.00 each. Check with your local massey dealer on book prices, also I posted the site for the best manual prices on the web a few weeks back. Do an archive search on manual prices and it should come up. No you did not see a oil filter because it is in the oil pan, not external. The filter you need is a number 1107 filter available at NAPA. Bought one last Thursday ($6.88). Also get an oil cover seal (from MF ~$2.50). These tractors are not as tippy as alot of others, i.e. low profile four wheels. That said, any tractor can flip backwards or roll on a hill. use your head, and read the articles on tractor safety. The oil in the transmission and Hydrolics comes from the same resavor. Do not use the modern GL-5 trans-hydro oils. Some have reported they these oils will errode the bronze gears. Use straight GL-1 90 wt. Mineral oil. (Note NOT SAE 90 gear oil) THe thing to look for is the GL-1 service rating. The oil is available in many places. Some Wal-marts carry a 5 gal. container for ~$23.00. TSC carries a 2 and 5 gal bucket for more under the name Ford Trans. oil. This is the same oil used in the N series. Also as I saw discussed, Use an Over riding clutch (OCR) if you plan to use a mower. This is because the PTO is directly linked into the transmission and the momentum of the mower blades will drive the tractor forward when you least expect it/want it. The OCR only lets power to be driven one way through the PTO. It is also a good device to get your PTO from the origional 1-1/8 dia. to the modern 1-3/8 dia. if it has not been changed already. There is a lot of good info here, look through the archives and ask if you don't find it there. Jeff
