Well, being that no one replied...I'll take a shot at your post. The definition of oscillate is roughly "to swing back and forth evenly" and that is what the pistons of the hydraulic pump do...via the cams or eccentrics. If you look at an exploded view with this in mind...it'll probably dawn on you as to how the mechanism works. A rough description would be that the pistons pump hydraulic fluid through valve bodies and the control valve position tells it how much to pump when you push or pull on the lever next to the seat of the tractor. A pressure relief valve sees to it that the pressure can only go to a predetermined amount...like when you try to lift something too heavy for the system so you won't break something. Parts are usually available over on the left of this page or up at the top. You probably ought to have a knowledgable mechanic work on this...as it is fairly complicated and precision made and a wrong move could cost you into the hundreds. Fred OH

The oscillator was only present in the later years. There is a "tail piece" on the control valve that gets wiggled back and forth by the oscillator; the idea is that the control valve is less likely to get stuck.
So, you can get by without it. If you don't have the drive or the cam maybe you never did?
I have looked into the tailpiece and it was available through MF but at some outrageous price, like over $100.
I think if you keep your oil clean and keep the water out you'll be OK.
(Check the diagrams at the bottom of the url below.)
