TO-20 pull a baler?

I'm still rebuilding my TO-20. Waiting on clutch parts and crank bearings. I'm thinking about starting to bale hay for the horses instead of bush-hogging it down. Will my TO-20 pull a baler? If so, what size of used baler should I be looking for? I have heard that balers need "a lot of horsepower"... I don't know what "a lot of horsepower" means. Lots of consignment autions in my neck of the woods over the next few weeks. There are always lots of balers for sale.

Hello gshadel.you should have no problem pulling a baler with your TO-20.We pulled a old MF baler with a ford 8N back on the farm with no problem. Just got to watch you don't plug it up when you don't have live power.Good Luck.Bye for now.

thanks for the advise. As a matter of fact, I was looking at an older MF baler that is up for auction this weekend. Don't know what model number it was, but it looked to be a bit smaller than most of the other balers on the lot.
Good point about stalling the tractor if the baler gets plugged-up. I hadn't thought about that. Would I need a over run clutch to run a baler?

Hi gshadel. Live power would be better but if you don't make the windrows of hay to big and keep your RPM's up and not go too fast you should be ok.We use to have a old baler with it's own motor that we pulled with a Farmall super C. This would be great if you could find one. I've never seen one in years.With one of these balers you could clutch and not have to worry about the baler stopping if you didn't have live power because the baler had it own motor.Good luck.Bye for now.
