TE 20 leaking at flange

I have a TE 20 that has begun to leak where the engine and transmission bolt together right under the starter. Fulid starts to leak from this point after the tractor runs for about a minute. It has been set up for over 10 years in an old barn before I got it, so has taken some tinkerning to get it running, Now I have developed this leak. The PTO and Lift seem to work fine, but can only let it run for a short time due the the leak pouring fulid out. Can someone give me some advice on what has failed and how difficult it would be to break the tractor apart to get at whatever has failed?

I agree with Rod,

get the manuals. An owners manual runs around $9.00 (get the TO20 owners manual if you have a true TE20 with the contential Z120 engine.) The Shop service manual runs for $13.00. Post again if you are having trouble finding these prices.

best thing is get the manuals I have copies of all of them drop me an email it is a fair job to do probably the gasket has failed since trans and rear end share same reservoir for the oil.

Dave,

There could be two sources of the leak - ethier from the transmission, or from the crankcase. The colour of the oil should provide a clue, use the dipsticks to tell. Either way you will need to split the tractor as a starter and then get the engine out if the crank seal is the culprit. Do not dispere, after my block cracked I had to do a similar process and I can not say I'm an expert with any fancy tools - just used big blocks of wood, followed the manual and took it slowley.
