Oil Change (Oval Filter below pump)

I am about to do an oil change on my tea 20 and was considering checking the oval filter that is located in the sump on RHS of block.

I understand that this can get blocked.

Is it an easy process to unbolt the oval filter from the side of the block,clean and replace.

What should I watch out for ?

Is it worth doing ?

It is a really coarse filter - more of a strainer really, and will only need a rinse in kerosene before drying and replacing - the only thing you need to remember is to drain the sump first . . . What, me? Nope, never done that when not thinking!.

Its function in life is to prevent the oil pump from inhaling large lumps of potentially fatal crud.

Do not overtighten the bolts when refitting, someone did on mine, so it will be a case of retapping to a larger size or fitting a helicoil - one day. Try to hold onto the gasket, and use a bit of blue sealer when reassembling.
