I just purchased a MF 50 tractor and the data plate on the dash is missing that had the serial number to tell what year it was built. . Is there any other way to tell the year - say by the engine serial number?

Russel - if your engine is a gasoline-fueled Continental, you can log onto the web page below. E-mail(from that web page) your tractor make, model, and engine serial number. They can then tell you what year and month the engine was built. Assuming it is the original engine, you can then reasonably estimate what year the tractor was probably built.
