TO30 Muffler Help Needed

The horse club I joined has a TO30. Exhaust pipe & the obviously very non-stock "muffler" were shot and noise was incredible -- just what you need with horses around. So I took them off and went to local muffler shop; he made something up to match the old -- basically I got a new pipe with a "glass pack" near tail end. Not being a muffler guy, I figured anything that wasn't rusted through would be alot better than what we had -- wrong. It is just as loud, although it doesn't shoot fire any more and it looks better. So clearly I need to go back and get a real muffler put on. My question -- what were these originally designed with in the way of a muffler? Size, etc. Are there any constraints on what I should put on? Are these tractors deafening by design or are they "normal" noise level if I just get the right equipment. Thanks for any help you can provide.

You should also be able to use this site's parts section to find the correct muffler.

Most tractor supply companies have stock replacements for the T030 tractors. I got mine for only about $30.00. Probably less than the muffler shop charged you.

Ralph: The muffler was shot on my TO-35 when I got it. I ordered one from Central Tractor part number 83045-123 "MF Muffler" and it cost $22.99 this was for the complete system from where it attached to the manifold right down to the tailpipe. I think that the tractor sounds fine now, don't know what the ponies think though! I think that your TO-30 would not use the same part number, and you should check with them to be sure; but I think you might need their part number 8064-123. I hope that helps, maybe others may know of a better source. Good luck! Jim

Thanks for the info fellas. I did find a Massey dealer not too far away and they have an exhaust pipe/muffler for TO30 in stock for $22.55 -- I'll pick it up today. Too easy. I guess I'll kiss the $70 I spent at the muffler shop goodbye! Thanks again, Ralph
