Well been really cold but the to30 always started great hardly ever have to chock her.I have fully restored and rebuilt everything new & used for a year now . Parked her in the garage last week with no problems, went to start her the next day didnt want to start so I chocked & flooded real bad, Clean everthing back up burned off the cylinders, just got done with new coil, plugs, condensor, points ,distributer cap, rotor ,set everything gaps ,triple checked them all, great spark off coil. jumps 3/4 inch no problem, everything is 12 volts also, rotor turns ,timing ok checked valves opening closing ok , distributor turns ok have checked gear, made sure rotor is contacting at top of distribtor cap inside carbon, also making correct contact to spark plug contacts inside cap, plugs fire have removed and watched them spark seemed a little weaker but bright blue spark ,Great compression, piston comes up number one timing is ok checked flywheel mark and distributor pointed at one.Plug wires firing order ok I have been through everything 5 or six times a day for about 5 days now.Tried starting fluid nothing. Has something probably to do with the cold but I dont know what would have changed has started great last winter and up until now. I am not unexperienced but this time am without a nickel to make start?
all suggestion welcome. thanks

No not yet I have worked on the problem some but been so cold inside my shed but no heat there.I am just about ready to put inside the work area and fire up the stove probably tomorrow. I want to replace the condensor one more time .I dont trust that I got the right one from the parts place the first was a 6volt the second has no writing . The system is all 12 volt . I put new wires on in the spring never had any problems but am going to change them just the same. . I have great coil spark but I dont like the plug spark color . I have tested the plug out and watched them fire by grounding a little yellow and looks a little weak. I will post back soon ,
thanks for asking.I have followed many suggestions multiple times on my own and after they were placed here. This tractor has always started one two turns on one small choke pull. gene

on my 1952 to 30 i had a similar problem starting when i put mine in the shed after working in the cold ,found a layer of moisture would form beneath the cover assembly housing of the distrubitor, the felt gashet was shot ,as soon as i dried it up i started right away
good luck

I agree with the last two posts. Mice like to build suffocating little nests in holes. They can clog an air filter in about 4 hours time.

kinda basic, but is the air filter plugged? Sounds like lack of air to me. Tim

Since you've seldom, if ever used the choke, something is wrong!!! The choke should be used any time the engine is at, or below, ambient air temp.. I would remove the air filter from the system and clean the plugs and try again. In other words, sounds like lack of air. Good luck, have fun.

Hi ETS.
I just had another self-taught lesson in the basics: I spent many hours troubleshooting what I thought was a solenoid or starter problem. After taking the battery out for a recharge, I noticed the layer of concealed corrosion between + terminal and cable -- yep, that was the problem.

By the same method(many hours barking up the wrong tree), I learned that the distributor on my TE-20 turns counter-clockwise; I had installed plug wires for clockwise rotation, so it would fire only #1 and #4 and run pretty rough for only a few seconds.

Another time I was chasing a no-start situation and found a dense layer of rust grains at the bottom of the carb float bowl preventing the float from falling to open the inlet valve.

Sounds like you have checked everything; here's one more idea: for firing order 1-3-4-2, the timing marks appear when #1 is at TDC and again when #4 is at TDC. It's tedious to remove the valve cover to see which cylinder is at TDC(both valves closed); a quickie test is to switch #1 and #4 wires on the distributor cap, connect the other two in their correct positions(clockwise/counter-clockwise rotation) and try to fire her up. Good luck!
Tex

also do compression test to make sure you didnt wash out cylinders.if low squirt a little oil in them.also make sure timing chain didnt jump a few teeth if compression remains low.sounds like youve covered all else.also check ignition timing after resetting gap on points to make sure its advanced enough to give you enough vacuum to start.ill be watching this posting to see how u do.

Compression excellent like new engine full rebuilt and also compression test perfect. Timing excellent points @ 22 thousand for 12 volt setting, everything has been checked distributor has not changed and double checked many times , checked against flywheel mark perfect. I will be workjing on again today will post results.

Gene Sounds like fuel supply or fuel air ratio after all that electrical work. Firstly check the tightness of the pipe on top of the valve cover That affects mixture. Look for ice somewhere in the fuel lines or carb Check that the choke butterfly isnt stuck with ice check tigtness of the carb to manifold bolts in case the low temps have created an air leakage by contracting the metal.

well i have read all the others coments on your problem. i have a TO-20 myself. so what i am trying to say here is my coment on it. you have checked e-thing except the points condenser. beleave me i been there twice. i had all the check out you did. and (twice) it was the condenser, it may not sound like the answer, BUTT its worth a try. condenser is only 3.00 to 4.00 dollars at advance stores.. good luck.
