TEA-20 clutch pedal adjustment

The clutch pedal on this tractor seems to be in the wrong spot on the shaft. It disengages the clutch almost as soon as you put your foot on the pedal, and then to engage the clutch, the pedal has to come right up. You've got to watch it since nothing happens until the pedal is almost right up and then the tractor takes off. Also, sometimes it's a little hard to get into gear.

I've noticed that the end of this pedal fits onto a splined shaft that goes into the bellhousing, and the end of the pedal also has a pinch-bolt, (or clamp-bolt), to help hold it onto the shaft as well. Is it possible to remove the pedal and then put it on again in a different position, just so long as there is some freeplay before the clutch is engaged? Thank you.

i checked my i&t manual for te20 but it isn't very helpful. tomorrow morning i will go out to the shop and look at my tea and post my findings.

sorry about the delay, murphy's law prevails around here. i checked my 1951 tea and there does not seem to be any splines on the shaft.(i didn't remove it) it looks like a smooth shaft. the clutch pedal has a locking bolt on it to tighten it around the shaft. hope this helps. post again if you need to. next time i will be quicker to respond.

Hey, don't apologise! We all get busy. I have to say sorry, though. I was working from memory when I wrote about the clutch pedal shaft having splines. I was picturing the brake shaft. Oops. In my defense I can only say that I didn't check since the tractor is in a cold barn, and this computer is in a warm house!

In fact, there are no splines, just a smooth shaft, as you say, that the pedal is clamped onto. The end of the shaft is squared, presumably so you can put a wrench onto the end. I suppose this has something to do with when you adjust it. Beats me. I will find out in the next fortnight or so. I'll mark the shaft and pedal, then change the pedal position and see what happens. I'll put a new post here and let you know how it goes. Thanks for your time.
