if anyone has their diff apart check your ring gear for loose rivets .this is a #*&@ set up.mine were loose and i had to drill them out.now i have to machine ring gear for flush sunk grade 8 bolts as the rivets had a tapered back on the tooth side of gear.has any one had this happen to them? my dealer wasnt suprised. i only noticed while pressing baerings the ring gear rotated slightly. no side to side play.

You can get bolts with the right head for exactly that application; I have just done it. Go to your dealer and ask them to look for the bolts from Sparex. They have that slight dome shape on the underside of the head. They also come with matching deeper-than-usual nuts.
Save you some machining.

jim on further inspection my ring gear is cracked around bolt holes .but they probably all are.my concern is the shape of the bolt will aggrevate this.the crack is towards the center so not much harm but still cocerned. thanx 4 your usual prompt response .ive started to depend on your input.

John UK helped me out with this; see post from last fall.
There were two sizes of ring gear. I doscovered that the newer, bigger size is still available at a very reasonable price but the older one is not available new anymore. If you have the newer one i.e. if your tractor has serial number > 325,000 I would recommend replacing it while you can still get it. The matched crown and pinion were something like $128 Cdn I think.
