Overheating Followup

Thought you might like to know where i am at with the overheating probloem.

I have adfjusted the carb settings and hav ealso checked the timing. Had to turn distributor approx 2mm clockwise to get timing correct for points agp setting of 15 thou. (Put new points in and are not sure what it was et to previously.)

Randy have taken up your suggestion to flush cooling suystem using vinegar.

Have just done that (used white vinegar so I should be able to see how dirty it gets) Run tractor at idle and accossionally at high revs for short bursts for approx 45 min. Did not overheat.

Am going away fro a few days so will flush out in the weekend .

I noticed that the book says the cooling system should take 8.5 litres. Only able to pour in 6 litres of vinegar. Howveer unable to drain using radiator tap and had to drain by removing bottom hose so guess that some fluid may have still b een in the system. If not then there may be a blockage somewhere. Time will tell.

Will get back to you early next week and let you know the outcome

You have confused me

I understood that the distributor need to be set so the points open at TDC for No. 1 cylinder.

Isnt this governed by the gap setting. If the points gap is smaller (or larger) wouldnt they open at a different distributor position ????

Therefore dosnt the gap setting need to be correct before checking the timing.

Im away on holiday at the moment and have left the vinegar in the cooling system to soak.
I will be home in the next day or two and will run motor for 10 min then drain vinegar and replace with new coolant and go out and harrow the fields .

Will get back to you and let you know the results.

Used white vinegar so should be able to see how dirty it comes out when I drain it.
