As the others said, it was originally 6 v, + gnd. However, if it has an alternator on it, you might assume it has been converted to 12 v and in that case it would be - gnd.

OK, thanks. I have never seen or heard of a six volt positive ground alternator. Learn something every day I guess. Did yours come from a factory, like Delco, etc.? Or was it made up specially?

Cant quite imagine why anyone would want a 6v pos ground alternator. If a complete restoration a 6v pos ground generator maybe. Engineer friends, please reply... I thought the most electrically efficient was 12 volt, neg. ground. This comes from one who has lived with MG automobiles for many years.

12v systems started on TO-35 at serial number 161250 and was negative ground. Your tractor, from 1953 is positive ground 6v originally.
