Jerrys method is the approved method. If you were supposed to take it apart, there would have been bolts and nuts...good luck, have fun. After fighting the good fight with hydraulic oils and losing, I believe in many of the old methods. If it ain't broke, dont fix it...

Chris, You can't take it apart. You have to put it in a big container (5 gal bucket) and soak it in solvent or diesel fuel and clean it that way. I let it soak for a day then pour the solvent through it and shake it up and continue doing that until it's resaonably clean. You can continue to ad fresh solvent until in no longer gets dirty, but I think that is overkill. Let it dry for a few days , re-install it and add fresh oil and fire up the engine. Hope this helps.

hey thanks alot for the help, i just got done figuring that out by searching the site. i was actually wondering though why i couldn't cut the bottom piece that is spot welded on and pull the mesh out, if the mesh is in the canister snug then it shouldnt fall down, and i would be able to clean the mesh better. just my thinking though, what do you guys think, thanks again

Chris, Believe me, soaking it in laquer thinner or paint thiner or diesel is much easier!

Jerry, What you want to do sounds like more trouble than it is worth. I did as Chris suggested, soaked mine in solvant for a day and than rinsed with clean solvant. You will get it just as clean as if you broke the weld to drop it out of there.

Terry,
????? Jerry suggested that the filter be soaked in solvent. Chris wanted to take it apart.
